Paying for Care & Support

Paying for Care & Support

When arranging care for yourself or a loved one, one of the most important considerations is how the care will be funded. There are a number of options available depending on your needs, eligibility and financial situation.

For some individuals, financial support may be available through the local authority or NHS following an assessment of care and support needs. This can help contribute towards the cost of care depending on eligibility and personal circumstances. Others may choose to privately fund their care, allowing more flexibility and choice over the support they receive.

There are also benefits and allowances that may help towards care costs, such as Attendance Allowance or Personal Independence Payment (PIP). Understanding the funding options available can help make the process feel more manageable and provide reassurance when planning ongoing care and support.

NHS Continuing Healthcare

NHS Continuing Healthcare (CHC) is a package of care that is fully funded by the NHS.

Who is it for?

  • People with complex or ongoing health needs
  • Individuals whose care is considered a primary health responsibility of the NHS

What does it cover?
If you qualify and receive care at home, the NHS may cover:

  • Personal care and nursing support
  • Equipment and home adaptations
  • Healthcare-related costs

The NHS does not usually cover everyday living costs such as rent, food, or household bills.
